
On the insulating glass line, the sealant is the last line of defense against moisture ingress and gas loss. When the silicone cures too slow or uneven, you end up with soft beads that sag, conveyor speeds that get cut back, and callbacks for field failures. Convection ovens fight air currents and can’t hold a uniform temperature across the gasket profile. So we built an infrared silicone curing module to fix that.
What matters, technically
We run short-wave infrared (NIR) quartz emitters tuned to the silicone sealant’s absorption peak. That puts the energy into the bead itself, not the surrounding frame. The spectral match is focused, and it knocks cure time down from minutes to seconds. The system runs on 230 V or 400 V, integrates with PLC control, and delivers repeatable output with tight temperature control across the width of the sealant path. Emitter life is measured in tens of thousands of hours, and output stays stable through thermal cycling.
Why it works in the cell
In the insulating glass cell, you need a dry, fully crosslinked silicone seal before the next pane comes through. Infrared heats the sealant directly, so you get a fast, controlled cure without overheating the glass or the metal spacer. The thermal profile is repeatable, which cuts variability in adhesion and bead shape. That translates to higher throughput, fewer rejects from incomplete cure, and edge seals that hold up under thermal stress and pressure testing. Energy use drops because you only heat what matters.
What to keep in mind
Infrared curing is line-of-sight. The bead has to be fully exposed, and the reflectors need to be aligned to keep flux even. Shadows from spacer geometry can create cure gradients, so we size the zone and layout the emitters to match your bead path. The module drops into standard frames, but you still need to confirm clearance, voltage, and control interface compatibility. Keep glass surfaces clean—contamination changes emissivity and can skew the thermal profile. Set it up right, and you get a tough, production-ready cure that keeps pace with your line.
