
No More Shivering in the Bathroom
Nobody likes that bracing chill when you step out of the shower or start getting dressed in a cold bathroom. We’ve all been there. Most heaters try to warm up the air, but that takes forever—and by the time the room is warm, you’re already dressed and leaving. That’s why we use shortwave infrared (IR). Instead of waiting for the air to heat up, IR sends energy straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. It’s basically instant. You turn it on, and you feel the warmth in seconds. How it actually works Inside these heaters, there’s a tungsten filament tucked into a high-purity quartz tube. When it kicks in, it lets out shortwave radiation. The cool part? This radiation passes right through the air without heating it. It’s a huge plus for bathrooms because it doesn’t dry out your skin or blow dust and lint all over the place. The nitty-gritty on the hardware To get that high-end, cozy feel, we use halogen-filled quartz. The halogen keeps the filament from wearing out too fast, so the lamps actually last. We usually tuck these into the mirror frames or hide them in the ceiling. One thing to keep in mind: these lamps pull a lot of power the moment you flip the switch. If you’re putting a bunch of them in a luxury suite, just double-check your breakers. You don’t want the power tripping just because someone wanted to feel warm. Making it work in your space These are designed to be easy. They’re small enough to hide behind mirror glass or inside a recessed soffit, so they don’t ruin the look of the room. But here’s the catch: shortwave IR is like a flashlight—it only heats what it can “see.” If you step out of the beam, the heat stops. To fix that, we overlap the angles of the emitters. This gets rid of those annoying cold spots in the changing area. Also, a quick tip on installation: give them some breathing room. While the air stays cool, the lamp surface gets seriously hot. Keep it away from plastic trim, or you’ll end up with some melted edges.
