The Headache of Power Distribution
When you scale a heating element up to 3 meters, things get tricky. You start dealing with voltage drops and uneven heat density. We don’t just stretch a single filament and hope for the best. That doesn’t work. Instead, we carefully balance the wattage and voltage so the power stays flat from one edge to the other. One heads-up: if you want those fast ramp-up times, you’re going to be pulling a lot of power. Make sure your electrical panels and wiring are beefy enough to handle that initial surge, or you’ll be tripping breakers all day.
Why We Stick With Quartz
We house the filaments in high-purity quartz tubing. Why? Because quartz lets short-wave infrared radiation fly right through without soaking it up. All that energy goes straight into the glass. For Low-E work, it’s all about the spectrum. We make sure the heat penetrates the coating without leaving any nasty surface defects. But there’s a catch. Quartz is fragile. If the tubes sag, you get uneven heat zones. To stop that, we use a rigid mounting frame to keep everything locked in place.
The Real-World Trade-offs
We design these to be drop-in replacements, so they fit right into your existing tunnel footprint. It’s a smooth transition. But let’s be honest: a 3-meter lamp is a delicate beast. One wrong move or a clumsy bump during installation and—snap—there goes your tube. Also, don’t try to wing it with the temperature. We strongly suggest using a precise PID control loop. These units have a lot of thermal mass, and without a good controller, the heat can “overshoot,” which usually means you’ve accidentally scorched the edges of your glass.
